She helped bring Tejano into the mainstream through her ingenuity. Her untimely death splintered her rising profile and like many times the moment a brilliant, warm superstar dies young, she has left many mourning her unrealized potential. The result is that fans have been inspired over time to dig their heels even harder working to ensure that her achievements will not be forgotten. Her tragic death in a shooting provoked a response from the Latino Community that was comparable as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was a hugely loved Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and brought joy to youngsters as well as older adults. Selena, a sexy and stunning stage performer, who was often referred to as Latina Madonna, was also a model offstage. Selena was also active in anti-drug initiatives.
